The 5^th agricultural division lies in the boertala autonomous prefecture in the west of Xinjiang autonomous region with   hectares lands totally.     hectares of the lands remain wasteland. Now, there are   hectare lands,   hectare forest,   hectare meadow and    hectare water area. The total population is 110 thousand. The division which is one of a borderline division in Xinjiang corps consists of 11 mechanical regiment farms, more than 30 enterprises involved industry, communication, construction, business, and also more than 70 units including school, hospital research and culture.

The former of the 5^th agricultural division is the instruction brigade of 115^th division in the 8^th corps which is called “red star”. During the Liberation War, it was reorganized as the 16^th division of 6^th corps in 1^st field army and fight in the north-west of China. After the peaceful liberation of Xinjiang, it marched into Hame. In 1953, it was reorganized as the 5^th agricultural division of Xinjiang Production and Construction Corps which have found the famous “red star channel” and some agricultural –husbandry farms. In 1963, it moved to Bole, and have developed large pieces of oasis, together with many enterprises. It makes the “fairy field” more beautiful.

With the construction of 40 years, a 60 thousand tons base of commercial grain has been founded, together with a base of high-quality cotton, a   production base of Hongti grape, and a reproduction base of fine-wool sheep which is in the lead of all Xinjiang Corps. In order to solve the lacking of coal, it took four years to realized electrification. Now, 25 hydroelectric station and a power station with 24000kw have been built, so now 98% of power can be supply by themselves. The 312 Station Road and Beijiang railway connected the port of Ala Mountain Pass. In 2000, the total output value of whole division is 700 million yuan, the profit is 23.9 million yuan, and the average income per capita is 6400 yuan. All of the division have reach the level of Xiaokang.

Recent years, the working emphasis of 5^th division is to build the shelter forest and commercial forest, together with the protection of Aibi-lake marsh. The advantage of resources and production have been developed. At the same time, the development of cotton industry, Hongti grape industry, the development of tourism and the construction of the West.

The 21^st century is a new age for the West, leaded by the strategy of reform, science and technology, untiement of thought, 150 thousand people is working hard towards the new beautiful plan.                go home
